ImpactaCut Reamers Safety Instructions

Posted by Piers Crane on

The ImpactaCut Reamer has a direct flute helix which is designed to work with the Impact mechanism of an Impact wrench, cutting with its sides, as opposed to conventional reamers that cut on the chamfer.

The reamer is heavily webbed for strength, however, improper use may result in shortened tool life or even damage or breakage to the ImpactaCut reamer. The following conditions may adversely affect reamer life or in some cases damager or break the ImpactaCut reamer:

• Misalignment of the reamer causing a ‘bell-mouth’ condition and premature wear.

• Lack of correct lubrication

• Bottoming out reamer in blind holes

• Reamer chatter (synchronized vibration) caused by the below.

• Over or underfeeding the reamer

• Careless handling of the reamer

Appropriate feed (pressure) should be applied to the ImpactaCut reamer to ensure that it ‘bites’ into the material and allows the impact mechanism of the wrench to engage without spinning loosely in the hole. However, excessive feed (pressure) on the impact wrench may result in the reamer slowing down, snagging and risking blunting and/or breakage to the cutting flutes.

•To optimise tool longevity, you should not attempt to increase the existing hole diameter beyond 2-4mm. If a larger hole is required, then the next size reamer should be used to ‘step up’ until the finished hole diameter is reached. If you require further information contact HoleMaker Technology on 0044 1622 740812

• Do not use your hand to support any part of the cutting tool when it is in operation/rotating. If necessary apply light pressure on the impact wrench to maintain the position of the ImpactaCut reamer.

• Wear approved Eye / Face shield, ear defenders and hand protection at all times.

• Do not use the ImpactaCut reamer if cracks, wear or damage of any kind are found to any part of the tool.

• Inspect the ImpactaCut reamer regularly for any signs of damage. Immediately replace the tool if any damage is found.

• Do not modify the ImpactaCut reamer. If it is reheated or reground it will lose original quality.

• Prior to the operation the ImpactaCut reamer should be inserted securely into the stated hex socket size ensuring the power of the Impact Wrench is turned off.

• Be sure to disconnect the power source when changing ImpactaCut reamer or Socket.

• Use ImpactaCut reamer only with Impact Sockets
