The BBC has finally announced that the Royal Research Ship (RRS) Sir David Attenborough is now ready for launch into the water, in an article published on Tuesday 10th.
The newly assembled polar research ship now stands on “the slipway of the Cammell Laird yard in Birkenhead, awaiting launch day”, the BBC states.
Cammell Laird
Cammell Laird – one of the largest and most famous shipbuilding companies in British industry have been building the UK’s £200m polar flagship since the beginning of its construction in October 2016. Specifying HMT Magnet Drilling and cutting solutions to speed up the metalworking on this high-profile project.
Upon time of launch - which is expected to be this Saturday at 12:20pm – an audience of over 2,000 will be present, including VIPs, staff and their families, all invited by Cammell Lair. And yes, Sir David will also be there to watch!
The assistant ship manager at Cammell Laird said that
"We've definitely risen to the challenge, as many people will realise, especially when they see how advanced she is right now, given the timeframe since we first started building her."
"She's structurally complete and we're well on our way with the outfitting. For the company, this is an amazing achievement."
Given that HMT’s vision is to speed up metalworking through cutting tool innovation, along with the tight timeframe to complete the build, it only made sense that HMT would - honourably - provide Cammell Laird with a range of essential equipment to aid in the timely completion.
The HMT products involved in the making of Sir David’s RRS ranged from our very own Magnet Drills, CarbideMax™ Broaching Cutters as well as Tapping products.
