The Wall of Death - Colin Furze

In 2007 engineer, inventor and aspiring Youtuber Colin Furze built his now infamous ‘Wall of Death’.

The giant motordrome was constructed from hundreds of old pallets and scrap wood and, once finished, saw Colin mount and ride its walls on a moped in a gravity-defying spectacle that helped launch his YouTube channel to its current heights of over 13million subscribers and well over half a billion views.

At the time he hadn’t yet created his notorious ‘Drift Trike’ but fast forward 10 years and with a number of Trike builds under his belt he wanted to put them to the test on the Wall of Death.

However, years outside in the elements had taken their toll though and, despite a valiant attempt, Colin was unable to successfully ride the dilapidated structure.

Fast forward another 7 years and Colin decided to give it another go on a brand new 'Wall of Death'.

This time the new structure would be stronger, sleeker and would stand the test of time.

In place of the original wooden pallets, he opted to build the frame out of modular sections of shaped metal, that could be prefabricated and bolted together.

Plywood sheeting would form the front face of the structure and affixing it to the frame would require drilling & tapping over 1,000 M6 fastener holes in the metal.

Looking to complete this extensive task as quickly and easily as possible, he opted to use VersaDrive® DrillTaps that would drill & tap the holes in a single pass.
